Philips Respironics has introduced the Dream Family solution to help improve the sleep therapy experience for people with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), according to a company news release.

The solution is comprised of an newly designed mask, the DreamWear; a positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy device, the DreamStation; and DreamMapper, engagement tools to keep patients motivated to use therapy as prescribed.

DreamWear

The DreamWear mask directs airflow through the sides of the mask frame so patients can sleep comfortably in any position with more freedom to move in bed, Philips says. With DreamWear, patients have a clear and natural line of sight, while the minimal contact, under-the-nose cushion prevents red marks, discomfort or irritation in the nostrils and on the bridge of the nose.

According to Philips, users rate DreamWear more comfortable, more stable, easier to use and more appealing than their prescribed mask. DreamWear adds to Philips’ comprehensive line of patient-centric therapy masks, including Amara View, Wisp and Nuance.

DreamStation

Developed with a patient-driven design to help new and experienced patients use therapy long term, the DreamStation PAP system provides daily user feedback via a color screen. DreamStation includes a comprehensive suite of connectivity options (Wi-Fi, Cellular, Bluetooth) and makes it easier for clinicians and patients to access patients’ clinical and usage data.

The device makes troubleshooting easier and offers a range of software features to help patients adjust to and continue to use therapy.

DreamMapper

DreamMapper is the new generation of Philips’ longtime solution, SleepMapper. The new mobile and web-based patient support application is accessible via phone, tablet, or PC, and offers patients motivational alerts, troubleshooting advice and educational content to engage patients in their sleep therapy.

DreamMapper enables patients to make adjustments to improve fit and comfort on their own, reducing instruction time needed from a clinician or homecare provider. DreamMapper has been shown to result in 22% greater adherence to therapy than patients who did not use DreamMapper, according to Philips.

“People struggling with sleep apnea face a range of issues – from finding the right mask to understanding how their therapy is working for them,” said Mark D’Angelo, Sleep Business Leader for Philips. “With the Dream Family, we’re aiming to address all of the factors facing those living with OSA by providing a comprehensive and connected sleep solution, including a revolutionary new mask design. At the end of the day, it’s about helping people feel less like they’re being treated for a condition, and more like they are now able to live their best life because they’re finally getting the sleep they need.”
