Although there are volumes of literature on ventilator associated pneumonia, many questions about it remain unanswered. Among the questions are whether there is consensus on the definition of ventilator associated pneumonia and the components of the definition. Additionally, if there are differences in the definitions, what does that mean in terms of prevalence and outcomes?

Today, Kenneth Chinsky, MD, will be talking about the challenges in the diagnosis of ventilator associated pneumonia.

Dr. Chinsky, has been with Chest Diseases of Northwestern Pennsylvania, Erie, since 1991. He graduated from University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School in 1985 and completed his residency in internal medicine at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and completed a fellowship in pulmonary medicine and critical care at Washington University of St. Louis in 1991.

Dr. Chinsky's current research focus centers around COPD medications, asthma, and sleep. He has written for various publications, including CHEST, where he contributed an invited editorial about ventilator associated pneumonia.
