Although there are many evidence-based measures for VAP prevention and treatment, clinicians routinely fail to employ them. Today we will explore some of the reasons for this phenomenon with Andrew F. Shorr, MD, MPH, FCCP.

Andrew F. Shorr, MD, MPH, FCCP, is associate professor of medicine in the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Georgetown University. Dr. Shorr is also an associate director of pulmonary and critical care medicine at Washington Hospital Center. He completed a fellowship in critical care medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, DC, where he also completed his residency and internship in internal medicine. He received his medical degree at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Charlottesville, and his masters in public health at Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore.

Dr. Shorr has written and presented extensively on the topic of hospital acquired infections, specifically ventilator associated pneumonia.
