Sessions at RSNA 2019 — the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America — will focus on Konica Minolta’s imaging solutions for diagnosing and managing lung diseases like COPD.

During one session, a radiologist will discuss how KM’s Dynamic Digital Radiography (DDR) increases the ability to assess lung function and provide a deeper understanding of anatomic movement in the chest during respiration to enhance diagnostic capabilities and patient treatment plans.

Dynamic Digital Radiography is X-ray that Moves, providing a cine loop that presents a diagnostic-quality view of dynamic density and anatomical motion. DDR enables direct visualization of the kinesiology of the respiratory system, which may allow for earlier discovery and a clearer understanding of the etiology of disease.

“With DDR, we can obtain both anatomical and functional information in one test. That is a game changer for radiography,” says Florence Doo, MD, radiology resident at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. “This technology has the potential to expedite clinical decision-making and patient care, supplanting traditional, static X-ray.”

A second session features representatives who will demonstrate the clinical and business benefits of quantitative imaging using the Lung Density Analysis for a detailed picture of where potential COPD is present in the lungs.

By enabling a more precise evaluation than with PFT data alone, clinicians can tailor treatment and enhance patient care for this irreversible and progressive disease. The quantitative Lung Density Analysis identifies areas indicative of emphysema versus air trapping and normal lung. It is part of an AI platform that will host multiple algorithms across vendors to provide a single work list and workstation enabling maximum radiologist productivity.
