A new report detailing the top-five Joint Commission requirements that were most frequently identified as “not compliant” in accredited organizations and certified programs was published in the latest issue of Joint Commission Online.
This data also helps The Joint Commission identify risk areas to highlight in the Focused Standards Assessment process, according to the publication.
Looking at infection control through either current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s hand hygiene guidelines or the current World Health Organization’s hand hygiene guidelines, issues were found in homecare (25% non-compliance rate), nursing and rehabilitation centers (22%), and Medicare/Medicaid certification-based long-term care (33%).
When rated for efforts to reduce the risk of infections associated with medical equipment, devices, and supplies, ambulatory care received a 37% non-compliance rate and nearly half of hospitals (47%) failed to comply.
