The Joint Commission is currently offering a free web-based course on influenza testing. Two versions of the course, titled “Strategies for Improving Rapid Influenza Testing in Ambulatory Settings (SIRAS),” are available. The first offers two CE credits (ACCME, ANCC) and is intended for physicians, physician assistants, and registered nurses in ambulatory settings. The second version is a no-credit module designed for medical office staff who collect respiratory specimens for influenza testing.

The course is designed to help practitioners understand performance implications of RIDT and the impact of circulating influenza strains. In addition, the course provides a demonstration of proper techniques for performing specimen collection at the point of care.
