All schools in one West Virginia county were closed on March 29 because of a flu outbreak, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
A state Education Department spokesperson confirmed the closures at the eight schools in the state’s Northern Panhandle, including in Weirton.
In the voicemail, Hancock County School Superintendent Timothy Woodward said all schools in the county closed because a large number of staff and faculty have the flu. He said they don’t have enough substitute teachers to fill the schools.
Woodward said one elementary school has over 18 teachers out with the flu. He also said a large number of central office staff have the flu.
