The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) is supporting the Respiratory Compromise Institute, a patient safety initiative that aims to standardize and improve care for patients with conditions that may lead to respiratory compromise.
According to an AARC news announcement, the association is now part of the Clinical Advisory Committee for the Respiratory Compromise Institute, founded by the National Association for Medical Direction of Respiratory Care (NAMDRC)
The institute will “work to develop a standardized patient risk assessment tool, require electronic monitoring for high-risk patients, improve continuous training of clinicians, and increase the understanding of medical conditions that can lead to respiratory compromise,” according to the AARC announcement.
Other RCI committee members include the American College of Emergency Physicians, American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Thoracic Society, American College of Chest Physicians, Physician-Patient Alliance for Health & Safety, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and Society of Hospital Medicine.
