A county health department in New Jersey reported that eighty-six Ocean County residents at a private event may have recently been exposed to measles.

Ocean County has 18 confirmed measles cases and six suspected cases currently under investigation, Public Health Coordinator Daniel E. Regenye said in a news release.

The Ocean County Health Department is in the process of contacting the attendees of the invitation-only event, according to county officials.

The department did not immediately say when or where the event happened.

“We must continue to be vigilant and to take all necessary precautions to avoid an escalation of this measles outbreak,” Regenye said in the release.
